Whale Shark

Whale sharks, known as sagren in creole, are known as the world’s largest fish as they can grow up to 12 m in length and weigh up to 20 tonnes. This species can be seen in Seychelles waters typically between September and November; however, this may vary depending on food availability.

Although not common, several individuals have been seen around Cousine in the last few years. Whale sharks are filter feeders, feeding only on plankton and small fish. They are peaceful and docile creatures that pose no threat to humans when encountered.
