Seychelles – Aldabra Atoll

The Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It forms a safe habitat for the Giant Aldabra Tortoises covering an area of 35 000 hectares within the Mozambique Channel. The Aldabra Atoll is a coral atoll, consisting of four main coral limestone islands which enclose a shallow lagoon area. There is also a huge outer reef that surrounds the Aldabra Atoll. You will find the Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle and no fewer than 13 terrestrial bird species in addition to the Giant Aldabra Tortoise population here. It is also home to more than 175 flowering plant species and numerous mangrove swamps can be seen.
